The currency controls have not gone onto European accounts.
The disaster will not be contained.  When finance fails it will all fail at once.
This is very near the last moment to sell property.
We are just waiting for the ax to fall.

No Mortgage Lenders in Jail, but a Borrower Lands There
The government did send someone to prison for actions related to the subprime mess. But not who you’d expect.
I have dealt with this in detail.  Conditions have not improved.

West Virginia does not appear to be doing badly.
We probably must consider the baseline. If the initial conditions are depressed and things get more depressed they do not need to get much worse to be very bad.  Let us look on the ground.

G.E.’s Strategies Let It Avoid Taxes Altogether
General Electric is skilled at avoiding taxes, lately to the extent that the Treasury owes the company money.
Taxes on businesses are to a large extent voluntary.
They depend on how revenue is labeled.

It would be so nice if people could read a text.

Some time ago I pointed out that silicon valley seems to be exploring the range of product without production.
There is not much hope of wages with that.

How Washington Abetted the Bank Job
A FEW weeks ago, two Republican House members asked Ben Bernanke, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, whether the Fed knew — before Lehman’s bankruptcy examiner revealed it — about the bookkeeping scam at Lehman known as “Repo 105.” This scam all...
"MOREOVER, the banks understood that the statement threatened the virtually regulation-free zone they had won for other forms of complex structured finance, particularly collateralized debt obligations. So the industry condemned the 2004 proposal, and the regulators caved. They agreed to think it over — for two more years.
Hence the interagency statement on “sound practices” of 2006 we described earlier, which was greeted with effusive praise from bankers, their lawyers and accountants. Gone was the requirement to ensure that customers understood these instruments and that the banks document that they would not be used to phony-up a company’s books."
          These were very bad boys.
They have not changed their habits.
