The Web Means the End of Forgetting

The digital age is facing its first existential crisis: the impossibility of erasing your posted past and moving on.

The witness protection program solved this. The price is high but the result is very through. A name change without supplying forwarding information will work for ordinary purposes.

Simply denying your identity may work. Names are rarely unique.

If the problem is kid embarrassment, That fades in time.

Simply not talking about your past works. Most will not search deeply. There is always the purloined letter technique. Post so much noise that the salient facts are lost.

G.W. Bush's staff had an awful time with his AWOL record. They did rebury it for their loyalists.

Most can just ignore the bad bits. Don't go to jail if it can be avoided.
