Lose Weight? No Way. Proud to Be a Bigger Bride.

Plus-size brides fight for respect in a wedding industry they say is focused on the size 2s.

Why Exercise Alone May Not Be the Key to Weight Loss

Mice given free access to running wheels moved less after exercising, which may have implications for diets and weight loss in people.

Yes.

People change with time.

Entropy increases.

Why Teenagers Become ‘Allergic’ to Their Parents

It’s no small task for teenagers to detach from those who have superintended nearly every aspect of their lives so far.

For me it takes years to try again.

Speaker Paul Ryan Will Not Seek Re-election in November

Speaker Paul D. Ryan will tell colleagues in the House that he will retire at the end of the year, signaling the peril that the Republican majority faces.

And meanwhile, as Speaker, his main achievement, if you can call it that, has been as enabler of corruption and contempt for rule of law. It's unclear whether the end game will be Democratic takeover of the House or autocracy, American style. But either way, what a legacy 4/

Judge John Hodgman on Forcing Guests to Use the Backyard as an Outhouse

Is that even legal?

It depends.

Cities stank of open sewers.
Many still stink.
Life can be "nasty, brutish and blessedly short"

Brassai: The 'Eye of Paris'

While in Paris, photography became Brassai's main language as he wandered through bars, ballrooms and occasionally brothels, sometimes giving direction to his subjects.

"“Alas, even a long life is short and one must choose,” Brassaï said in a 1980 interview. “When someone has a gift for painting or sculpture, the road is marked, no hesitation. But when there are several strings to one’s bow, that’s almost a calamity. One is perpetually torn by one’s gifts, in a sort of civil war, threatened by dissipation, full of regret for what one might have done and did not do.”"

Three Shows to Watch This Week

Zombies, assassins and some silly cops.

Zombies are a fascinating concept out of Haitian plantation labor.  Work continues after death.  Hell without damnation and without salvation.  The tradition is celebrated in NOLA
By the jazz funeral.  The dead stay in the ground and their souls go to the relief of  judgment.

My work continues.
I will try to become rural when I can.

Sooner is better.  As soon as you can is best.

Why Not Mike Pence?

Shouldn’t religious conservatives be rooting for impeachment?

Mike Pence is a competent Republican.
A skilled destroyer of the rule of law.
He has done little as yet for the White Right blight.
As long as Republicans have a majority in the house
He has little power because Trump is generaling the reactionary campaign.
