Twitter, Facebook, Slack: Using Every Tool to Hear What Readers Think

Hanna Ingber, editorial director of The Times Reader Center, provided a how-to on using social media to converse with readers on topics from race to the weather.

I want to know the true facts.

‘Inseparable’ Finds Pride, Indignity and Irony in the Lives of Siamese Twins Chang and Eng

Yunte Huang’s history of Chang and Eng Bunker follows the brothers from their childhood in Siam to their servitude in America to their eventual support of the Confederacy during the Civil War.

They made it work for a long time.

This Season, Fishermen Sandals Get Reimagined

The latest iterations don’t quite look like the versions of beach vacations past.

Sandals keep my toes from rotting.

$700,000 Homes in Washington, Pennsylvania and Michigan

A 1935 house in Seattle, an 1880 Bucks County retreat and a log cabin on Lake Michigan.

These three do not appeal.
It may be my presently depressed condition.

House Hunting in … Wales

Real estate in Wales has been stable in part thanks to its relative value: For the price of a flat in London you could buy a castle in North Wales.

Please no.
I have been seeing Outland, A detective show from the BBC.

Bananas vs. Sports Drinks? Bananas Win in Study

A banana might reasonably replace sports drinks for those of us who rely on carbohydrates to fuel exercise and speed recovery.

Do what works.

A Runner’s Mysterious Illness, With Her Dad at Her Side

Long-distance running was our love language. What would we talk about if not about mileage and routes?

The health problem.

Anne Wojcicki Wants to Be Healthy at 100

The chief executive of 23andMe on paternity testing, A-Rod and Facebook.

She is a nerd with a strong social conscience.
I like her.
Her Catholic conscience has taken her to places I did not go.

On ‘Jersey Shore Family Vacation’ and ‘Trading Spaces,’ Reality TV Eats Itself

The return of two beloved 2000s reality programs shows how its stars have grown up, but not outgrown where they came from.

My life was never like that.

Exhaustion was dominant.

Where is Googoosha, the Missing Uzbek First Daughter?

Uzbekistan adores its late dictator, Islam Karimov, but is trying hard to forget his daughter, Gulnara, who was once the country’s most famous person.

My impression is of a speed freak who burned herself out.
She is probably dead.
If Uzbekistan issued a death certificate her overseas assets would pass to her son in Britain.

House Hunting in … Wales

I am not that romantic or that wealthy.
The castle is not in Spain.

Grab the gardener's cottage?

M.L.K.’s Unsanitized Lessons

They have a particular relevance for the Trump era.

M.L.K. worked for equality before the law.
He made progress and left much to be done.
The Southern Strategy adds reversal of his
efforts to the grand project of the Republican party.
The gilded age was not a good period.

A Victorian Gothic House in Wales

I find that tall chimney stack frightening.
It is designed to support a large soft coal fire.

The toxicity of the fructose is worth risking under extreme loading.

Setting Options for Ad Blockers

Searching for a balance between too much advertising and just enough to make money, some ad-blocking programs now allow “acceptable” advertisements.

It is a fact of digital existance that content providers exist on advertising revenue.
As users of digital content we can keep the producers hungry.
We must not starve the producers on pain of their economic deaths.

We can be selective about which producers get our attention.
