Fake ICE Notices Urge Washington Residents to Report ‘Illegal Aliens’

A number of fliers were posted in a Washington, D.C., neighborhood, featuring ICE logos and citing federal laws about immigrants. The agency has disavowed them.

Republican partisans could be taking unsanctioned action
or it could be a Trump campaign committee action.

The Scope of Hate in 2017

Though the frequency of hate crimes seems to have decreased since January, attacks like the one in Portland continue.

New York Police Officer in Critical Condition After Being Dragged by Car

The officer, responding to reports of shots fired in Brooklyn, was dragged for two and a half blocks.

Part of the job.
The officer's training failed.

For This Soup, Some Assembly Is Required (and Provided)

Western Yunnan Crossing Bridge Noodle, in Sunset Park, excels at a deconstructed potage that servers combine at the table.

Questions for: ‘Trump Will Withdraw U.S. From Paris Climate Agreement’

Do you think Mr. Trump made the right choice? Why or why not?

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/02/learning/questions-for-trump-will-withdraw-us-from-paris-climate-agreement.html

Donald trump has proven himself a selfish bastard
He has forced the diplomatic corps to follow his whim.

Dave Horn has done a good precis.
The U.S. will meet the goals of the Paris treaty without federal action.

The world will surpass the two degree warming limit.
The Paris goals are not sufficient to prevent disaster in the tropics.  Disasters will not be limited to the tropics.

The longer action on carbon emissions is delayed the more draconian will be the actions required.

The G7 know.

Some Hires by Betsy DeVos Are a Stark Departure From Her Reputation

The education secretary, often criticized as an out-of-touch billionaire, has staffed her administration with a diverse set of subordinates, some from unlikely sources.

Betsy DeVos has limited goals:
An end to the separation of church and state.

The Public Editor Signs Off

The New York Times may no longer have a public editor, but if that role’s extinguished, who will watch the watchdog?

Ex-British Party Leader Is Pulled Into Trump Campaign Inquiry

Nigel Farage, who led the U.K. Independence Party, scoffed at The Guardian’s report that said he was a “person of interest” in the F.B.I.’s investigation.

The F.B.I. is properly concerned with U.S. domestic intelligence.
In so far as Nigel Farage was involved with the Trump campaign he is a person of interest to the F.B.I.  He is obviously a person of interest to the British domestic intelligence service.

A Russian connection is not germane.

Trump’s Travel Ban

A reader writes that the administration is unwilling to give up the fight to reinstate the ban.

There is no need to limit the administration to just one reason.  Be generous, any reason to ban Islam will please
the Christian Right.

Should the President’s Words Matter in Court?

In general, no. In the case of Trump’s travel ban, yes.

Trump's statements before and after election bear directly on his presidential order.
Last Thursday’s opinion by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit properly rejected the order as probably unconstitutional.
The supreme court should refuse an appeal.
