40 Port Authority Officers Could Be Disciplined in Neglect of Duty

Several officers were found to have spent more than six hours of their shifts in a break room, the agency’s Police Department said in a news release.

Security theater costs more.
There must be enough guards to look dramatic.
Double shifts are not sustainable.

Harassing the Super

A co-op board is responsible for protecting its employees from shareholders behaving badly — even if they’re lawyers (or just litigious).

The tenant should move.  Get him a basement apartment.

Will Rick Perry Be the Energy Department’s Undoing?

The former Texas governor famously vowed to eliminate the department. Soon he may lead it.

"The big question, of course, is whether Mr. Perry and Mr. Trump have the interest or ability to pursue an ambitious agenda, or whether they are determined to carry on an ideological war against climate science."

Ideological warfare seems most likely.

The City Could Have Saved This 6-Year-Old

The point of a child-welfare system in a city like New York is to make sure that no child falls through the cracks.

Staff and pay The Administration for Children’s Services.
The case load on individual agents is unmanageable.
If the financial burden will ruin the city government the city government must change.
Chattel slavery is not an option.

Plan to Reduce Medicare Drug Costs Is Withdrawn After Bipartisan Criticism

More than 300 House members expressed concern about the proposal, which would have used
reimbursement formulas different from those in federal Medicare law.

"“We are actively reforming every other aspect of our health care system to pay for value except pharmaceuticals,” Ms. Schakowsky said in the spring. “Drug manufacturers are the only entity that can charge Medicare anything they want.”"

Allow Medicare to bargain with the drug manufacturers as the Veterans Administration is allowed to do.
