The Restless Quest for a Good Night’s Sleep

Entrepreneurs are applying technology to the age-old problem of insomnia, some of it caused in recent times by an overabundance of technology.

Trump Inauguration Security Planners Gird for Protests

Will an unusually rancorous election be capped off by an unusually tense inaugural week in Washington? Security officials worry it may be.

The recent election was a coup.
As a coup it requires a lock-down.
The lock-down will not provide legitimacy.

How to Determine the Power Rating of Your Gadget’s Batteries

Most phones and tablets are well within the airline industry’s safety rules for lithium-ion batteries, but some gadgets, like drones, may push the limits.

Batteries are available everywhere.
So are chargers.
Don't take them on the airplane.

Alaska, Reliant on Air Transit, Faces Pilot Shortage. Are Drones an Answer?

A wave of baby boomer retirements and the growth of aviation in Asia have led to a void that is rippling across the state with gale force.

Drones require pilots on the ground.
There is nothing magic about a drone.
Alaska is under paying pilots.

The Trump Matrix

How can we tell where the new administration is heading?

None of it looks pleasant.

A Gut Makeover for the New Year

What you eat can affect the microbes in your gut — and your long-term health.

We can play with diet.
Raw vegetables.

Sorry, Liberals. Bigotry Didn’t Elect Donald Trump.

The contention that Americans chose Trump for his racist or sexist views is wrong; many voted for him despite that.

Eventually the composition of the Trump coalition may become clear.
It makes little difference now.
We will see how things develop.
There will be more than enough pain for all.

‘Rogue One’ Tops Box Office Again; ‘Sing’ Lands in Second Place

The Star Wars spinoff film has now passed $523 million globally in sales.

It does not seem a banner year for film.

The political career of Mr. Reinecke, a California congressman and a lieutenant governor under Ronald Reagan, was derailed by a 1974 perjury conviction.

Get the story straight.

Denver’s Gritty Back Door Could Become Its New Gateway

With its low-slung buildings and vacant parcels, the River North Art District is seen as one of the last development frontiers in the city.

Obama Designates Two New National Monuments, Protecting 1.35 Million Acres

The monuments are Mr. Obama’s latest effort to protect public lands and waters from development and to nail down his environmental legacy before leaving office.

These lands are federal lands because the states did not want them.
The states have no say now.

Trump Assails Obama Over U.N. Action on Israeli Settlements

On Twitter, the president-elect said the Obama administration was treating Israel with “total disdain and disrespect.”

"If a single state solution is chosen there will be a choice between a democratic Israel and a Jewish Israel.
A single state cannot be both."

A single state of Palestine means a genocide.

A two state solution is anathema to both sides.

My thought is for a democratic Israel.
