Finding a Path to Success in the Second Tier of the Tour de France

Bretagne-Séché Environnement, a cycling team from the Brittany region of France, has a slim budget, and it is a victory for the team merely to be participating in the Tour de France.

Bicycle racing is not interesting to me.  Bicycles remain an interest.

Fashion is far too dominant.

Tuesday’s Travel News: Airbnb Offer in Cuba; Faster Wi-Fi in the Air

What you need to know if you’re on a trip or planning one soon, including free Airbnb stays in Cuba, faster Wi-Fi on Virgin America and ice-cream at the Pierre.

It is of interest but nothing immediate.
Internet on shortwave is interesting.

Work More? Well, No

A reader writes that “working more at substandard wages is not a recipe for a healthy economy.”

We can get the better distribution by regulation and unionization.
We will need both.

House Hunting in New Brunswick, Canada

Home prices in the area grew by 3 to 27 percent year over year from 2003 until 2009, and have been flat since, making it a buyer’s market.

I found Canada very foreign.
It feels like it should be home but is not.
The places I thought were home are feeling strange.
I think it is my age.

$1.2 Million Homes in California, Massachusetts, and Louisiana

This week’s properties include a ten bedroom house in Massachusetts, mountain views in California and an Acadian house in Louisiana.

Let us begin to talk about houses.  I do not want a palace.
A master suite, a guest suite, and a half bath along with the kitchen are enough plumbing. A library sitting room and a formal dining room are enough public area.
The kitchen serves well as family space.
The studio and shops are separate  to divide work life from other life
Our project will be to bring it all in under budget.

A Tomato Salad With a Greek Personality

The colorful mix of heirlooms is bulked up with red or pink beans. Feta, mint and celery round out the salad, which is spooned on toasted bread.

I am cooking for one.
By the time I have made a salad I am suffering from apatite.
I stuff and suffer.

Colorado: Immigrant Leaves Sanctuary After 9 Months

A Mexican immigrant who lived for nine months in the basement of a Denver church to avoid deportation left the sanctuary Tuesday, after immigration authorities notified him that they would not carry out his removal.

Immigration policy is sick.

Utah’s ‘Grand Staircase’ Leads Back in Time to Dinosaur Shangri-La

The craggy Kaiparowits Plateau, part of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, was once a steamy forest and home to odd beasts.

Fascinating stuff.
We are learning more.

New Details Released in Sandra Bland’s Death in Texas Jail

A sheriff’s official described a timeline for the jail cell of the woman, Sandra Bland, in which she refused breakfast around 6:30 a.m., until a jailer found her hanging shortly after 9 a.m.

There is plenty of fuss.
I don't want to add to it.
I can't reduce it.

Facebook Loses Appeal on New York Search Warrants

A New York appeals court agreed with a lower court that only a defendant could challenge a search warrant, and then only during a hearing before a trial.

Yet another reason to avoid Facebook.

Powered bikes, backpacks with batteries, on-ear headphones, Bluetooth speakers and USB car chargers can make the trip less of a grind.
