The Great (Double) Game
The case of the Great Game of Central Asia is a complicated mix of duplicitous players and failed strategies.
Thomas Friedman still has hold of the wrong part of this tangle.
We will not develop an alternative to fossil carbon while it is the apparently cheap way to power civilization. We can see the concomitant costs of oil dependence. Those who make their money from the oil and coal industry cannot see those costs.
The first step is to break the benefit of fossil carbon. A stiff tax on the carbon itself is a way to do that. Alternatives, real alternatives will be presented very quickly.
