It depends on the persons. I am by development and training an isolate, a non team player. I would do poorly with any arbitrary regime, on campus or off. My observation is that the extracurricular portions of an education are very important. these happen on campus for the most part and require hands on participation. Lab courses require labs and lab assistants. Such are not available on line. More and more the supplies are not generally available. Instrumentation is an art that is not expected of undergrads. Medical schools must be attended.

A literature course is going to work well in a virtual environment. A performance course, not so much.
