U.S. Says No, but Nuclear Option for Spill Gains Support
The question which remains, and has thus far gone utterly unanswered by both BP and the Federal Government is why there was no "what if" scenario which anticipated the complete failure of a blowout preventer? And now we're talking nukes? Has the world spun off its axis? Is it just me, or are we facing Armegeddon of a sort? I keep asking this; "what if" the relief wells don't work........? No one seems to have an answer.

Nuclear Option on Gulf Oil Spill? No Way, U.S. Says
The idea of sealing the oil well in the Gulf of Mexico with a nuclear blast is among the wildest of ideas proposed by scientists and other creative types who have deluged agencies and BP with calls and e-mails.

Reckoning in the Gulf
The people and resources affected in Louisiana have just built/ been rebuilt after almost five years of struggle post Katrina Rita- then were slammed by Cat 5's every year since. You didn't hear about it because no TV big shot's favorite New Orleans barroom went under water for two weeks... Now we face a truly awful scenario. Fishing ruined, whole industries wiped out, a Dust Bowl scenario for people whose towns were literally wiped off the face of the earth 4 1/2 years ago. To rebuild and then have some greedy corporation poison you out of your homes and livelihood? It's just gruesome! Hurricane season just started, and we face normally nothing storm surges now loaded with dirty, nasty crude oil. BP doesn't have enough money to compensate for the havoc and destruction they've wreaked! But I'm sure the folks on the coast will gladly take every last dime- from Halliburton too. Now lets see a lot of Big Shots go to the Penitentiary for Crimes against Mother Earth and Humanity. And don't forget Louisiana Senator David Vitter- the lackeys should go too.

$239,000 Conductor Among M.T.A.’s 8,000 Six-Figure Workers
This is just sad. Chairman Walder appears to be making a very skilled attempt to direct the public's anger away from the MTA's bloated management and towards its rank-and-file employees. Judging by this article, his efforts appear to be paying off. The other week newspapers ran headlines about bus operators taking long leaves after being spit on. Oops, it turned out that almost *none* of the bus operators actually did this and it was only a few employees out of tens of thousands. But mission accomplished for Jay Walder - the public now thought of hard-working bus operators as malingerers. Now this article dutifully skips the management and goes again right to the line workers. "The usual top-level managers are included in that list" the article says but only lists the two agency's top executives at the bottom of the article as an afterthought. What about all the other management that makes more than $100,000 per year? The article doesn't say. One has to wonder why not.

A Botched Raid, a Vital Embargo
Israel has as its foremost obligation the protection of its citizens. Given that, why should it have allowed the flotilla to enter Gaza without inspecting its goods?
