Panel Seeks More Police Training on Sex Crimes
Truly amazing! Here we are in 2010 and NYPD STILL hasn't instructed officers on how to properly assist victims of sexual assault. I’ve grown weary of hearing about "New York’s Finest." Finest what? What we know is that the City of New York is stupendous at "marketing" our police department and patting themselves on the back ad nauseam, but there is an enormous disparity between the hype and reality. NYPD still suffers from a lack of credible leadership, inadequate training, and abysmal supervision. The mayor and police commissioner have circled the wagons around their fear of terrorism and overlooked their responsibility to ensure we have a world class professional police department. It’s all well and good to prepare for some cataclysmic event such as a terrorist attack, but we cannot lose sight of the day-to-day policing and interacting with residents and victims that is crucial to the success of any law enforcement function. It’s despicable that victims of sexual assault are obstructed by the very people who are supposedly sword to protect them! It’s time for NYPD to knock off the glad-handing and finally provide the structure, leadership, and supervision that has been overlooked for decades!

This did not make the cut.
It seems we need another commission as the police have not yet learned how to deal with the problems. I wish them success.
