Social Security Is Like a Ponzi Scheme, but It Isn't One - Room for Debate
Social Security, like a Ponzi scheme, relies on the constant entry of new participants to pay off old ones. Both plans are better deals for earlier entrants.
Just wrong.Social security is a tax supported old age insurance program. It is pay as you go.The current working cohort pays the benefits of the retired cohort. Because of the baby bust there are fewer workers to pay for a time. There is a trust fund that is supposed to bridge that problem. It looks likely to work but that stream of income will not be available to the general fund and the borrowed funds will have to be replaced. To do that other taxes must rise. This is anathema to the Republican party. They are just going to have to suck it up.The bill is coming due.
