Expand the Use of Food Stamps? - Room for Debate
Should restrictions on using the benefits at fast food restaurants be loosened?http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/f/food_banks/index.html?scp=1&sq=meals%20on%20wheels&st=cse
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meals_on_WheelsUsing food stamps or the current equivalent program to support home delivery of prepared meals seems a good idea that should be implemented.

Europe Stifles Drivers in Favor of Mass Transit and Walking
“Europe Stifles Drivers in Favor of Mass Transit and Walking - http://nyti.ms/jX7YyW #fb”Apparently the traffic engineers have decided that Robert Moses got it right the first time. There are still some traffic circles or the remains of them in the earliest parkways. They were the predecessor of the clover leaf. There is one at Grand Army Plaza in front of the Victory Gate.NPR has a story on circles today.

Let Teachers Teach - Room for Debate
If teachers were given unencumbered classroom time to actually teach, perhaps the argument for a longer school day would become moot.WhineThe benefit is to the parents. They need more child-free time to more nearly satisfy their managers. -
Bring Naps, Recess and the Arts Back to School - Room for Debate
In the absence of time to engage in rest, in physical activity and in disciplined creativity, it’s doubtful that more hours of traditional study will do children much good. This is just what Vern Williams is complaining of.The benefit is to the parents. -
Fruit Growers, and the U.S., Would Suffer - Room for Debate
If production costs suddenly increased because of labor shortage or higher wages, consumers would probably shift to similar and less expensive imported fruit.Specify that relief will only pay for fair trade food. -

How the Deficit Got This Big
“Read this: How the Deficit Got This Big http://nyti.ms/p5wEiB”". . . it is worth asking how we got here — from healthy surpluses at the end of the Clinton era, and the promise of future surpluses, to nine straight years of deficits, including the $1.3 trillion shortfall in 2010. The answer is largely the Bush-era tax cuts, war spending in Iraq and Afghanistan, and recessions."
Got it.

Expanded Euro Bailout Fund Clears Hurdle
"The 103-66 vote in the Finnish Parliament, with 30 legislators absent, still leaves seven of the 17-member euro group yet to ratify a bailout fund that, despite expanded resources and power, is considered much too small to fend off further market attacks on Greece and other wounded countries."http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2011/09/europe-update_28.html"The Greek 2 year yield is at 70%. The Greek 1 year yield is at 131%."Pushing up the daisies . . . -

The Link Between Food Stamps and Obesity - Room for Debate
More supermarkets in poor neighborhoods might just translate into a bigger supply of junk food.
Require "food stamps" to be good on fair trade food only. Increase the benefit if required. Allow home delivered prepared food.
