Will Culture Clash Splinter the European Union? - Room for Debate
The euro was supposed to unify Europe. Is it only magnifying the north-south cultural differences instead?

It worked wonderfully.  The parents did not tell their children.
My guess is they found it too embarrassing.
Western European Recovery after the Second World War should serve as a clean test of Keynesian economics.  The fact that the borrowing power was not local should make little difference.

The Euro Widened the Culture Gap - Room for Debate
What the sinking euro tells us about the divide between 'Club Med' and Protestant Northern Europe.
"Culture doesn’t matter, Karl Marx orated; it is the “substructure,” the economy, that determines how society arranges its way of life. The tottering euro proves this great thinker wrong once more."
Not that I can see.  The statement was one of the things Marx got right.

Europe's Cities: Where Would Hemingway Go in 2011? - Room for Debate
In every era, one city is designated as a magnet of creativity and energy. Which city is the dynamic center in Europe now?
    It ought to be Philadelphia.
Hemingway went in search of material.  He was at that time a working journalist.
He might very well be in Toronto with excelent broad band.
