Ban Fur? Then Why Not Leather? - Room for Debate
Is there a meaningful distinction, or are these battles just
" Is there a meaningful distinction, or are these battles simply the politics of the possible? Does the law raise constitutional issues?"

There is a very active group that thinks no animal should die for our pleasure.  To me this is a very doubtful proposition.  I will happily back the idea that no animal should suffer for our pleasure.  I will also back the idea that we must share the planet with the species that also live here.  Our species has no special or exclusive right to any ecological niche.

We are a democracy, from the highest levels to the small communities.
Even families run by parental consensus.  Any rule making group can impose any rule or rules on its members and dependents limited only by the rules of groups that include them.
West Hollywood California can ban the open sale of anything it wishes within its jurisdiction.  They cannot ban the purchase of things elsewhere by their residents.  I doubt they can ban the private trade in things legally possessed.

The Economics of Blogging and The Huffington Post
“Good analysis on the value of blog posts: The Economics of Blogging and The Huffington Post - http://nyti.ms/gAeg9p”
I have never considered blogging as an economic activity.
If one can find a publication that will add cachet to a blog post that's wonderful.  If the publication pays, that is miraculous.
If one insists on payment one is a staff writer, not a blogger.
The rules are different.  Bloggers cannot complain about the behavior of the publication.  If the publisher guesses wrong their bloggers will go elsewhere.  The staff writers are contractually bound.  they can leave but the money stays behind.  Residuals are a question.  Bloggers do not have them.

      Sarcasm?
The Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm) did not attend the lecture I did.  Stripping the skin from the living as a punishment is not an acceptable thought in our age.

      Reform or Bust
In the grim period that followed Lehman’s failure, it seemed inconceivable that bankers would, just a few months later, be going right back to the practices that brought the world’s financial system to the edge of collapse. At the very least, one ...
      Busted.
Between Obama and the Republican party no reforms were made.
We are hanging from a twig over a big drop and the traders are very happy that the numbers are going up.  Europe is broken even though they think they can effect a rescue.
The US markets are receiving monies running from Europe.

As a child I thought trapping was a good way to support an "off the grid" life.  I no longer think so.  I won't work in the beef business either.  Dogs are obligate carnivores.  I am an omnivore and would like to continue that practice.  I do not have to do it at home.

Round and round but the question is fur and leather.
      I eat meat.
I eat vegetables and grains and nuts and fruits and seeds.
      Omnivore.

There was no deal and there is no deal.  There is a structure that will not deliver a deal.  The Republicans own the impasse.

Why the Antichrist Matters in Politics
I admittedly live in a liberal bubble.
I hope this is fear mongering.
If it is not there is not much I can do about it.
I will continue to talk to people who want to talk to me.

Tribal Sovereignty vs. Racial Justice - Room for Debate
Was the Cherokee Nation's expulsion of black Freedmen an act of tribal sovereignty or of racial discrimination?
It is both.  The Cherokee were much more active with the South in the
    Civil War.

China's Outdated Mentality on Taiwan - Room for Debate
U.S. arms sales will not change the military configuration in the Taiwan Strait, but it will make China think twice before taking any military action.

We made promises  sixty years ago.  If we can keep them with arms sales that seems a small price.
I would like to see a definite chill in relations with the mainland.
