The Peasants Are Revolting

http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/06/the-peasants-are-revolting/

"And more to the point: by blaming democracy, the people who have gotten everything wrong are letting themselves off the hook. The elites on both sides of the Atlantic have messed up catastrophically, and need to face that fact."

    Rick Perry's Plan: $10,000 for a B.A. - Room for Debate
Will a college degree that costs $2,500 a year be worth the paper it's printed on?
Such degrees certainly have been worth having.  The service academies
have not charged tuition.  They have taken their costs as post graduation service.
The Landgrant colleges have not charged tuition to state residents.
There are endowed schools that do not charge tuition.  Cooper Union
and Webb are two that spring to mind.  Competition for the available places is very stiff.
The "plan" is equivalent to "Every Man a King."  Better to update "The G.I. Bill".  That will not happen with the Republicans we have in control.

Closed, Says Google, but Shops’ Signs Say Open
This is just local businesses indulging in unfair competition.
The permanently closed button should come off Google search.
Closure is indicated by unpaid advertising bills or mail from the operator.

Are Research Papers a Waste of Time? - Room for Debate
Has the Internet made research papers a useless exercise for college students? Is there a better way to assess knowledge?
I have dealt with this question as written repeatedly. Creative questions will take students to places where there is not a lot of predigested pap and obvious secondary sources.  Original work  in any form assesses knowledge.
Any contact at all with you is worth my attention.
My time is not mine alone.
You may have to wait for a response or even try more than once.
    I love you.
I have responsibilities that I will happily abandon to be with you.
Until I can be with you I will try to carry them.

    The Last Moderate
    Jo Nocera is attempting demagogy.
Jim Cooper is not a moderate. He is a Dixicrat.
What he is regretting is more the departure of his power than any change in political alignment.
As is pointed out the changes in the congress are not the doing of the Democrats. They attempt to compromise repeatedly and are rolled by the Republicans.
Any action at all for the next year and a quarter, until after the new congress is seated, will be bought at the price of further advances of the Republican agenda.
The disasters of inaction are the result of Republican plays for power.  We really must make that very clear.

Europeans Talk of Sharp Change in Fiscal Affairs
We all need world peace too.
A political union may be possible after another shot of extreme pain.
    It is not possible now.
Self rescue is still possible but not at all probable.  Rescue by us is not possible at all.

    Time to Revive Home Ec
As has been said, this subject desperately needs good writing.
    This is not it.
