"Ultimately, Dr. Palumbi warned, slowing extinctions in the oceans will mean cutting back on carbon emissions, not just adapting to them.
“If by the end of the century we’re not off the business-as-usual curve we are now, I honestly feel there’s not much hope for normal ecosystems in the ocean,” he said. “But in the meantime, we do have a chance to do what we can. We have a couple decades more than we thought we had, so let’s please not waste it.”"

Is Disability Pay Hampering Veterans’ Future?

Paralyzed Veterans of America and a psychiatrist who has consulted in veterans’ hospitals respond to a front-page article.
Veterans; Disability Insurance

"As a psychiatrist who has consulted on psychiatric wards in veterans’ hospitals, I can state that the system is pernicious. It pays veterans to stay sick and punishes them for getting well enough to work. The veteran who gets healthy enough to work loses benefits.
There is a simple fix for this problem. Continue to pay benefits to disabled veterans who return to work. It won’t cost any more than the current system. It will provide these men and women with motivation to become more productive citizens, and it will honor our commitment to these brave men and women, who have served our country well.
