Popular Demand

Box office is down so far this year compared to 2013, so studios have less to divide. The top three each grossed more than $1 billion, with Sony fourth at $948 million. “Guardians of the Galaxy” took over No. 1 overall last week, so Disney may pass Fox, which has gone with a tried-and-true strategy: of it’s top six movies, all were sequels except for “The Fault in Our Stars” and “Mr. Peabody and Sherman,” above. Coming this year, several potential blockbusters, including an all-star “Exodus: Gods and Kings” (Fox), “Dumb and Dumber To ” (Universal) and “Annie” (Sony).

There are liberal arts schools.
There one will find several kinds of generalists among the Gentle People preparing for cultured life or doctoral programs.
There are Universities which claim to combine all the above.  They try to teach tolerance and understanding of the value of all the arts, applied and theoretical.

Success at the last is so rare as to be undervalued by all institutions.
