Conundrum

.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charity

Concepts and practices

  • Charity (practice), the practice of benevolent giving and caring
  • Charity (virtue), the Christian theological concept of unlimited love and kindness
  • Principle of charity in philosophy and rhetoric
  • Tzedakah, a Hebrew concept, literally meaning righteousness (Genesis 18:19) but commonly used to signify charity, and giving to worthy causes or people in need
  • Zakah and Sadaqah, the Islamic concepts of mandatory and voluntary alms-giving, often translated as "charity"
  • Altruism
  • Alms

These are all religious practices.

One cannot be charitable for another.

All the charitable organizations I am aware of have ulterior motives.

There is strong separation of church and state in the U.S.

Our government is not permitted to be charitable.

Relief:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relief_%28disambiguation%29

Lifting back of a burden or weight

  • Humanitarian aid, material assistance provided for humanitarian purposes, usually during crises
  • Aid agency, an organisation dedicated to distributing aid, to relieve the burden of hunger
  • Relief pitcher, a baseball pitcher who is brought into a game in progress to relieve the work of a team-mate
  • Relief Society, a philanthropic women's organization, an auxiliary of the LDS Church
  • Relief valve, a type of valve used to control, limit or "lift back" pressure
  • Debt relief, the partial or total "lifting-back" or forgiveness of debt

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare

Welfare is the provision of a minimal level of well-being and social support for all citizens, sometimes referred to as public aid. In most developed countries, welfare is largely provided by the government, in addition to charities, informal social groups, religious groups, and inter-governmental organizations. In the end, this term replaces "charity" as it was known for thousands of years, such as assistance from Church sources until early modern times.

Welfare must be a right.
It cannot be insurance (an entitlement) or charity.

"Godless Humanism"   Usurpation of Religious duty.

I think that people should not die of hunger, thirst, exposure, or needlessly bad sanitation.

"Godless Humanism" looks good to me.
