What New York Can Learn From Barcelona’s ‘Superblocks’

A transportation initiative in Spain’s second-largest city seeks to ease traffic and pollution and make better use of public spaces.

It is a wonderful idea as long as I do not need to get a car in and out of it in reasonable time.

Cars do not improve cities.

Medicating a Prophet

Psychosis can be rewarding; take it away, and the patient realizes he’s a homeless man with AIDS.

I am glad to learn psychiatric residents feel guilty about medicating the unwilling
I am also glad it happens less often
A judge should be able to sentence a mentally ill prisoner to a locked ward for the duration of the punishment with time off for consenting to medication.
The magistrate at the time of arrest should have the power to send prisoners for observation rather than setting 'bail or Rikers' or setting them loose with a court date.

Text to Text | ‘The Glass Castle’ and ‘Life on the Streets’

In this Text to Text, we ask students to reflect on the ways individual stories might shape or change conventional beliefs about homelessness.

Keeping clean and staying healthy are the main problems of the homeless.
They are full time jobs.
Possessions become a nuisance.
I have lived like that.
I do not want to try to do it again.
