The weak link in the 19-nation eurozone is struggling to tame its debt. On Tuesday, Greece missed an important payment to the International Monetary Fund.
EUROPEAN SOVEREIGN DEBT CRISIS (2010- ) 

Previous Greek governments built an large national debt in Euros.
The interest on the Greek debt is larger than the disposable income of the Greek state.
Attempts to raise the disposable income have forced the economy into depression.
The present government is attempting bankruptcy without court protection.
They have not been able to declare bankruptcy.
The referendum asks for permission to pay the debts of the government in a new national currency.
Continuing with the Euro means continuing the depression.
Recovery is possible with the proposed new currency.
