The Juvenile Habits of Israel's Voters

Most of us need to grow up and vote for one of two main camps - not just for what's fashionable.
Voting and Voters; Elections; Palestinians

The Israeli electoral system is excellent.
"Some floaters are angry with a political system that can’t solve Israel’s big problems. They have a point: Israel’s recent governments were unable to make peace with the Palestinians, they didn’t stop Iran’s nuclear program, they couldn’t eliminate Hamas and Hezbollah and they failed to reduce the cost of housing."
None of these problems are amenable to Israeli political resolution.

You Try Living on the Minimum Wage

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has acknowledged that a person can’t survive on $8.75 an hour in New York City. But he has watered down his proposed solution.

Arab Alliance Rises as Force in Israel Vote

Legislation to raise the percentage of votes required to enter Parliament threatened the survival of four small Arab parties, so they united after years of refusing to do so. Now, they could potentially prevent Benjamin Netanyahu from retaining the premiership.
Elections; Palestinians; Polls and Public Opinion

It is probably a good thing.
A genocide of Palestinians would end all U.N. support for Israel.
A genocide of the Israelis would mean nuclear war.
Nuclear war is not an option.

I am left with a one state solution.
It will be Israel.
It will not be Zionist.

For Poorer and Richer

In a substantially poorer past, lower-income Americans found a way to cultivate monogamy, fidelity, sobriety and thrift.
Income Inequality; Poverty; Families and Family Life; Social Conditions and Trends

Ross Douthat is wrong.
He is either disingenuous or misinformed.
The value of a dollar was much higher in the past.
Before 1934 gold stood at $20/oz.  Gold is now at $12,000+/oz.
A dollar is now worth .1 2/3 1933 cents, 1.666 mills.
Relative wealth measurements in dollars are meaningless.
Prohibition speaks to sobriety.
Abandoned children speak to fidelity.
Prostitution speaks to monogamy.
The westerns mention wages of $30/month. That is equivalent to $18,000.00/month, $216,000/year.  It was not considered enough to marry.  So much for thrift.
