Social Media History Becomes a New Job Hurdle
A start-up is doing the arduous work for companies wanting to dig into potential employees’ activity on the Web, from posts on Facebook to usage of e-commerce sites.
What this says to me is the employers do not want to hire.  They are digging hard for reasons not to hire.

    Bonuses for Billionaires
Wow! Wow! The logic of the Tea Party caucus in the G.O.P. really grows on you. Who needs air traffic control, anyway?
This sounds far too much like the Rands.  Sarcasm does not penetrate.

Cold-Brewing Coffee and Tea - The Curious Cook
Cold-brewed teas and coffees tend to contain less caffeine and less acid than their hot counterparts. And, of course, they taste different.
I will play with this more.  Bookmarked.

    TeenNick’s ’90s Nostalgia Fest
Teen Nick will start re-broadcasting some 1990s hits like “Doug,” in response to a groundswell of nostalgia on Facebook from fans who grew up with the shows.
This really is a dark period.  I have never purchased cable.

Elected as Cost-Cutters, Freshmen Push Spending for Home Districts
House Republicans who rode a wave of voter discontent into office last year may be pushing for spending cuts, but they’re also quietly funneling millions of federal dollars back home.
Demagoguery is the Republican stock in trade.

Athletic Performance and the Monthly Cycle
What makes a female athlete different from a male athlete? Watching Abby Wambach leap above defenders in a World Cup soccer game to head the ball decisively into the net, or seeing her teammate Megan Rapinoe streak a pass down the pitch, the answe...

Can a Playground Be Too Safe?
Efforts to regulate playground equipment to prevent injuries may stunt emotional development, a new study suggests.

Obama’s Chance to Reduce Auto Emissions and Our Thirst for Oil
The wrong decision would let the auto industry drive itself back into a familiar ditch, while allowing the United States to stumble in the green technology race.
A rise in the mileage standard would be a good thing.
The argument presented here is wishful thinking.
. . . United States to stumble in the green technology race.
There is no green energy race.  Internal combustion is not green.
Global warming is linked to fossil carbon combustion. High prices at the gas pump are linked to high global demand. We area diminishing part of that. Diminishing supply is a big factor.
This policy of high mileage implies small cars and/or electric cars.

Food Crisis in Somalia Is a Famine, U.N. Says
Millions of people are on the brink of starvation and aid deliveries are complicated by the fact that militants control the famine zones.
Blame the victim has been our policy around the horn of Africa.
The power structure in Somalia is Islamic. That power structure has formed proto-government after proto-government. We have not allowed them to develop.  The area has gone into famine and we will not allow relief because it would aid the Islamic powers in place.
                         Moral hazard.

Wambach Returns to Rochester to Hero’s Welcome
Three days after the Women’s World Cup final, Abby Wambach and her magicJack team played a Women’s Professional Soccer match before a sold-out stadium in Rochester.
Rochester is a company town.  Eastman Kodak has owned the city since flour milling ceased to be a major industry.  Photography has become much less of an industry since the digital revolution.  The old power structure is liberal and Republican and racist. Women's suffrage and abolition.  The great migration loaded up the old industrial safety net leading to an abdication of responsibilities by the Eastman company.
The city is about in the centre north of the Burnt Over District.
