The Case Against Law School - Room for Debate
Should the standard three-year law school model, followed by passage of the bar exam, be the only path to a legal career? It has not been but lawyers have made a lot of rules since then. There are some really schlocky schools and there are yeshivas that teach law.
Law school costs too much to be a way to mark time.If it is a real profession it is well worth the loans. There is often tuition forgiveness or assistance for pro bona types.Getting involved with local politics is a useful introduction. There have been union scholarships.A good approach is to go and talk to some deans. Older schools will be better than newer ones, heavily endowed better than publicly financed.Stanford rather than Berkeley, Yale as opposed to Hofstra.
