In Indonesia, a Region Where Death Is a Lure

The death rituals of the Torajan people of South Sulawesi, Indonesia, are unusual and elaborate, and seeing the Torajan culture close-up is affordable.

Our ancestors are present in our lives through memory.
Memory cannot be erased.  I have tried.
When it dies we call it Alzheimer's disease, brain death of the personality.
We remember or we die.

Short term memory loss is a blackout.
Exhaustion causes them as do drugs.

The visibility of iconography associated with bias and oppression has been a volatile issue on campuses this year.

A definition of civilized behavior I was taught:
"A gentleman never offends unintentionally."

It seems a reasonable approach
though if rigorously applied there would be far more casual death.

I know of no way short of that to teach the ignorant caution.

Video: Love Letters to the Gravity Boss

Dan Price, chief of Gravity Payments, raised the annual salary floor for his employees to $70,000. Most responses were positive, but Mr. Price says that even the negative letters were valuable.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_Payments

"Gravity Payments is a credit card processing company with the philosophy of reducing the costs and headaches associated with accepting credit card payments by charging as little as possible while supporting independent businesses 24/7. The company was Co-founded in February 2004 by Lucas Price and Dan Price out of their Seattle Pacific University dorm room after he witnessed thousands of small business owners being treated unfairly by their credit card processor. Today, Gravity Payments is the largest merchant services provider in Washington and serves over 12,000 clients across the nation. Not only does the company provide merchant processing services, but also a robust business suite including a Working Capital program, POS and mobile payment solutions, business analytics and more to clients nationally with the most concentrated client bases in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, California, Oklahoma, and Hawaii. It is headquartered in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, Washington and employs over 100 team members."
