New York State Test Questions Tricky for 3rd Graders, and Maybe Some Adults

Many questions and answers from this year’s third- through eighth-grade tests were publicly released to show parents the kind of work their children were expected to do.

The test is an assessment of the third grade cohort.
An average score of fifty percent would be perfect.
That the average score was higher indicates the test designers underestimated the children's achievement.
That the test administrators sought "passing grades" shows their incomprehension
of the test designers concern with reading ability.

The fuss associated with the assessment test is misdirected.
I detect political manipulation.

How Are Those Walleye Biting? On Minnesota Lake, They’re Not

Only a few days into August, summer on Mille Lacs Lake seemed to be over after a state agency banned walleye fishing, saying the annual quota had already been exceeded.

"Others said they were waiting for the Legislature and the governor to take quick action. “A loan would be good, but how am I going to pay it back?” said Randy Simons, an avid fisherman who rents pontoon boats to tourists in the town of Onamia. “There’s nobody catching fish because there’s nobody here.”"

There are no customers because the customers are not allowed to catch their choice of fish.
