Blame Uber for Congestion in Manhattan? Not So Fast

Average traffic speeds have declined in the heart of Manhattan, and although Uber may play a part, it’s hard to prove that case.

The actual situation is the City of New York granted the cab operators a monopoly in return for regulation of numbers and rates. Uber and its competitors are threatening that monopoly.  Politically, the city cannot defend a monopoly it is legally obligated to defend.
The monopoly has limited competition between cab operators to support high enough fares to allow safe and clean cab service.

Uber and its imitators will not survive as a self regulating market cannot function in the environment.

Air traffic is at saturation.
More buildings and aircraft parking will not improve air traffic.
The T.S.A. prevents a better passenger experience.

The greatest improvement that could be made is a fast rail link to Newark Liberty Airport.
