Giving Doctors Grades
The policy of issuing ‘report cards’ for surgeons has backfired. The surgical report card forces safe procedures to be selected from the pool of patients.
The result is care apportioned to minimize the risk of treatment failure.
The surgeons have not improved.

Despite Pollution Warnings, an Official Will Jump Into Onondaga Lake
Believe in Syracuse, a booster group, has organized a swim in which the head of the Environmental Conservation Department will jump into Onondaga Lake to prove it is not as polluted as it once was.The repute of Onondaga Lake as a health hazard was well earned.
Polluted water is much less dangerous than we have been told.
If it were as dangerous the population of India and China would be much smaller.
This is not to claim that bad water is good for people.
The failure to quickly kill is not a recommendation for human consumption.

Every Drug Court Should Allow Methadone Treatment
Indefinite maintenance is a proven treatment for drug addiction. All drug courts should allow it. But they don’t."Drug courts were first offered as an alternative to punishment at the height of the war on drugs in Florida in 1989. Today, they serve around 120,000 defendants. If their goal is actually to treat addiction, they need to offer individualized treatment that meets a higher standard of care and gives participants the best odds of survival and recovery. Mr. Cuomo and Mr. Christie should act immediately and sign their states’ bills."
