Obama's student Debt Plan Is a Good First Step - Room for Debate
The strength of the anti-student-loan movement and the number of students defaulting suggest a serious lack of awareness of repayment protections already in place.

Will Amazon Kill Off Book Publishers? - Room for Debate
What happens when more writers have the option of a one-stop shop: agent, publisher and bookseller.Really not much. There will be many more bad and boring books. Books that never should have had a second reader will become more prevalent. The pot boiler has never left us. The reviewer will grow in importance. First editions will be collected. Second editions will be for reading. eBooks never have errata sheets. -
The Worst Lesson We Could Teach - Room for Debate
If freeing grads from their debts would help them spend, spend, spend, who picks up the bill?

Student Debt Plan Compounds the Suffering - Room for Debate
Predatory lenders are still allowed to victimize borrowers with ever rising costs and penalties. This is a different view. There are facts, Let us have them.http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billsearch.xpd?q=365All I find is radical noise.Grandstanding is not going to win but it may keep the seat. -
Obama's Inadequate Response on Student Debt - Room for Debate
Tinkering with the student loan program does nothing to address the underlying issue: the soaring cost of college. The president has no control of the cost of college. -

Should College Grads Get a Break on Their Loans? - Room for Debate
The Obama administration has eased the terms on student debt. What impact will the new rules have?Less than they should. Financial advisors should be much more knowledgeable. -

Asians in New York City
“Maps, Info and Asians, what more could you want? - Asians in New York City - http://nyti.ms/iGorvc”I know something of them. Enough to know something of my ignorance. The upper level north east quadrant of the central structure of the Metropolitan Museum of art is devoted to them. I have not spent enough time there. I have yet to get to the Noguchi Museum in L.I. City. Almost in Raven's Wood.

Asians in New York City
“Maps, Info and Asians, what more could you want? - Asians in New York City - http://nyti.ms/iGorvc”It is an inflation problem. Money chasing realestate driven by the"inhuman" nature of the bedroom suburb. We seek contact on line because we find none among the neighbors.

Subsidizing the College Bubble - Room for Debate
Will people be quicker to take on debt if they know the government will eventually make the terms easier for borrowers? The proposition that we reserve higher education to the already privileged runs counter to the American tradition.Meritocracy is our tradition and though an early training purchased by family wealth often forms part of that merit it has not been a barrier for those with luck and pluck. Land grant colleges offering tax supported education to future leaders have taught the professionals of our nation. Scholarships and grants have recruited talent to the elite schools. The G.I. bill provided the first sufficiency of talent to the educated ranks.Penurious legislatures and trust officers of no talent have faced a inflated cohort of offspring of the G.I. bill. They have raised prices to limit demand while employers have raised entry requirements because of limited demand. We as a civilization are caught between what is required for life and what the "good life" requires.
