Occupy Wall Street Can't Be All About Anger - Room for Debate
A compassion for justice precipitates anger, but it is the empathetic impulse that inspires people to remain committed to a movement.
Really angry people form mobs and march off to take action.
This is much more a political convention.  I suspect they are debating how to vote next year.  We have a local election coming up.  It is locally important.  County government wants to degrade the civil service.

The Psychology of Occupy Wall Street - Room for Debate
There's a common thread in the Occupy protests worldwide: everyone is mad. Do they have more in common than anger?
They are all sure that they are not getting enough money.  If there was a more specific target it would be mobbed.

Occupy Wall Street's Taps Into Longstanding Concerns - Room for Debate
The public has come to see government policies as catering to the rich and powerful.
    This is
"First, fundamental views about economic inequality are long standing."
"Secondly, the public has come to see government policies as catering to the rich and powerful."
"The third factor is of course the economic climate."
These all look like the same thing.

        The Quagmire of Design I.P.
“Strong stance by @Tom_TerraCycle in the @nytimes: The Quagmire of Design I.P. - http://nyti.ms/mtZ03J”
There is very little cost to registering a copyright.
That is all that is necessary or possible for most design.
A patent is more powerful but involves a degree of novelty
not found in aesthetic design.  These days it involves real costs as is pointed out here.
Just go with the copyright on things like these clocks.
The Chinese will steal it if they can.

Finding the Sweet Spot of Business Growth
“Define your own growth rate. Article from Jay Goltz: Finding the Sweet Spot of Business Growth - http://nyti.ms/jctRaK”
There is a sweet spot.  It changes with time.

Showing Gay Teens a Happy Future
A new online video channel is reaching out to teenagers who are bullied at school for being gay. The message: life really does get better after high school.
Sooner is better.             As soon as you can is best.

Occupy Wall Street Taps Into a Deep Well of Discontent - Room for Debate
Where this movement goes will depend on whether healing leadership can mobilize the forces to reform governments.
The movement is a "sit in"  There is no powerful voice to lead it on to action.  Perhaps Obama can.  If he does there will be big changes.

Lieberman Will Not Run For Re-Election
We need more people like Joe in politics, not less. It's the moderate, centrist, bipartisan representatives, like Lieberman, who will take this country forward. Unfortunately, he will most likely be replaced by a combative leftist.
Joe Lieberman lost his primary and his legitimacy in his last election.  He is wise not to run again.  Connecticut will send a Democrat.

      Come Again, Republicans?
Republicans, who claim to be worried about the deficit, are suddenly determined to overturn one of health care reform’s central cost-control mechanisms.
"Dr. Berwick has endorsed the use of “comparative effectiveness” research to determine which treatments work best. He would use such research to judge whether a new drug or procedure is worth the cost of coverage, a step the reform law shies away from. He does not have the power to change that law. But the issue will have to be addressed at some point if there is to be any hope of restraining medical spending."

There is no sign of this from Washington.

A.D.H.D. Is in the American DNA - Room for Debate
You had to have special qualities — some would say special craziness — to get on a boat and come to America.
The gene pool is homogeneous.   Henry Louis Gates demonstrated that with his DNA studies.  American Exceptionalism is cultural only and recent at that.  A.D.H.D. is an addictive behavior.

It is a philosophical difference.  Republicans are sure Government is a luxury they need not afford.
