Libya's Lessons for Syria - Room for Debate
Libya took up arms and called for foreign military intervention. And they got it.
Oil is of great value.  Southern Europe depends on a flow from Libya.
Military assistance for these Syrians is Israeli.  The Syrians will get it when a good offer is made.  Israel would like less tension on their northern border. Turkey is busy with the Kurds.

      Not a real strong signal.

Qaddafi's End, the Mideast's Future - Room for Debate
From Egypt and Tunisia to Syria and Bahrain, what effect will the Libyan dictator's death have on the region?
The recognized ratio for the defeat of a guerrilla operation is ten regime soldiers for each local warrior.  Qadaffi could not do that once the mercenaries went home.  The revolutionaries problem was to stay viable until the central government ran out of cash.

      Liberals Ask: What’s a Progressive?
      “Liberals Ask: What’s a Progressive? - http://nyti.ms/aN7GgG”
A progressive is a liberal on Republican Kool-Aid.
It is protective coloration in Texas.

Banks Should Welcome Rules - Room for Debate
The costs of regulation are trivial relative to the costs of an economic crisis like the recent one.
So far the present crisis has not cost the bankers.  The costs come at the end of next week.

Taxes and the Tyranny of the Minority - Room for Debate
No government can survive indefinitely while catering to the fantasy that taxes are evil or unnecessary.
"No government can survive indefinitely while catering to the fantasy that taxes are evil or unnecessary. If our leaders cannot bring themselves to support even this timid tax increase for the most fortunate Americans, that will be bad news both for our fiscal prospects and for our civic faith that democracy can function effectively in a society marked by vast economic inequality."
The shrub is not stupid, he is small. At change of party a modern president is looking at at most eight years in office. No event during that eight years will not bear his name.  Events after those eight years will bear another's name.  Bush II put in place a number of events on the speculation that they would not cause pain until he was well out of office.  That pain is with us now.

Occupy Wall Street's Shrewd Slogan - Room for Debate
By saying 'We are the 99%,' Occupy Wall Street frames itself as part of a vast 'us' along with most of the public, against a tiny 'them.'

Occupy Wall St. Learns From Globalization Protests - Room for Debate
This movement does not yet know how powerful it is. The answer will determine what demands are possible.
Mostly they learned what not to do.

Occupy Wall Street Should Beware of the Old Guard - Room for Debate
This grassroots movement must avoid being co-opted by big, established organizations like unions and political lobbies.
The old guard is playing catch up.  That is not a winning strategy.

A Plan for the Uber-Rich - Room for Debate
Flat taxes are regressive, in that they place a high tax burden on the most vulnerable at the lower income scales.
Herman Cain fell into a ditch.  I doubt we will see him again.
