    Our Lefty Military
As we look for a model of liberal values, such as investing in people and guaranteeing them health care, how about turning to the United States military?   Paternalism.    ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paternalism )

"George Lakoff claims that the left-right distinction in politics reflects a difference between perceived ideals of the family; for right-wing people, the ideal is a patriarchal family based upon absolute morality; for left-wing persons, the ideal is an unconditionally loving family. As a result, Lakoff argues, both sides find each others' views not only immoral, but incomprehensible, since they appear to violate each sides' deeply held beliefs about personal morality in the sphere of the family."

Facebook Readies an iPad App, Finally
Facebook had its application for the iPhone ready right when the Apple App Store opened in July 2008. But more than a year after the iPad went on sale, there is still no official Facebook app for it.
    Dominance games.

Anthony D. Weiner Announces His Resignation
Representative Anthony D. Weiner, a high-profile Democrat, said Thursday that he was resigning from Congress following revelations of lewd online exchanges with women.
The noise would never have stopped.  He is gone now.

As Cloud Computing Takes Hold, Data Caps Are Sure to Follow
The tech world seems to move in spurts and spasms, and right now we’re in the middle of the “cloud” wave.
Wireless is the limiting problem.  The backbone is big enough.

Meatless Mondays Catch On in Aspen
More than any other city in America, Aspen has embraced a nationwide pro-veggie effort aimed at persuading people to go meatless at least one day a week.
Meatless is a good idea. It will be a hard sell to most restaurant customers.

Call Off the Global Drug War
To make drug policies more humane and more effective, the U.S. should rehabilitate non-violent, casual drug users, and undermine the power of organized crime.
    Please.
Legal, cheap, clean and deeply unfashionable.

In Vancouver, a Hockey Loss Touches Off Rioting
Canada, a nation that takes pride in its reputation for peaceful coexistence, wrestled with questions about possible flaws in the national character after a riot in Vancouver.
It is a self correcting problem.

Chromebook From Samsung Has Its Head in the Cloud
Google’s Chromebook concept for laptops is built on the assumption that you can get online almost anywhere.
Save your money for a few years.  We will get the sales people to stop working so hard.

Twitter and Facebook Are Backbone of Saudi Dissent
Virtually any issue that contradicts official Saudi policy now pops up online, including more than 30,000 comments about a female driver’s arrest.
Domestic operators sophisticated in insurgency and networking will make any autocracy unstable.  Theological sophistication will help.

‘Page One: Inside The New York Times’ -- Review
“Page One,” a documentary about The New York Times, is fixated on one particular reporter.
I am with the author.  Find just one producer and make a film about the executive editor.  We will have a chance in a few years.

Therapists Who Help People Stay In the Closet
Should therapists help God-fearing gay people stay in the closet?
Case dependent but in general no.  The injuries to others are just as nasty as the injuries to self.  "coming out" and changing churches prevents the injuries.  God fearing is the big problem.

New York Public Library Buys Timothy Leary’s Papers
The archive of the drug guru Timothy Leary includes accounts of Allen Ginsburg’s and Jack Kerouac’s experiments with psilocybin.
I have survived that period.  I have little interest in examining it.

    Summer in the Rockaways
The Rockaways in Queens have become a beach hangout for young, artsy New Yorkers.
It is a long way and a long ride.  People commute further.  The welfare island will keep it from gentrifying very much.
I rather dislike young, artsy New Yorkers.

Benjy Bronk of 'Howard Stern Show' Upstages Weiner
Representative Anthony D. Weiner came to Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, to resign from Congress, and Benjy Bronk came to steal Mr. Weiner’s glory, if it could be called that. Fortunately for Mr. Bronk, no one was checking press credentials at the door.
Really we should not provide a stage for clowns.  I regret he got coverage.

The White House says the act requiring approval by Congress doesn’t apply to the Libya operation because what United States forces are doing there doesn’t amount to “hostilities.”
