Two or three times is enough.  Testing is probably not the answer.  Fix the Curriculum.

Doctor and Patient: In Search of a Better MCAT
Recently the college-age daughter of a friend talked to me about her dream of becoming a doctor. She was doing well as a psychology major and in her pre-medical courses, was working as a research assistant for a pediatrician at a nearby medical sc...
Doctors need a finite set of skills.  The test is trying to find a group of individuals who can acquire those skills. It does very well.
Harvard Medical has tried another approach.

      Reckoning in the Gulf
What's the use of having "big government" if it doesn't use the full force of its reach and power to regulate and punish "big business"? We need not just civil but criminal prosecutions for corporate and regulatory wrongdoing. We also need to make sure that businesses can't be set up in such a way as to protect their leaders from culpability for decisions that hurt people or the environment. It already looks like Wall Street is going to walk. Please let's don't let BP (or those who were supposed to be regulating them) walk away scot free.
The Lawyers are building cases. This can go on for years.
      They will not walk.

New York Congressman Resigns Over Shirtless Photo
For those who are asking what has this got to do with whether he's doing a good job? I'm inclined to say the same thing, which is what I said about that good and competent president, Bill Clinton, when the Replutocrats impeached him. Did you say that then also?
The problem is that his presence in the congress would be a constant distraction.
He is a Republican from a state with a Democrat governor.

Overtesting Drives Away the Best Teachers - Room for Debate
Who’s getting paid to design these assessments and the materials districts, educators and parents will scramble to purchase to help children prepare for them?
This is not a good way to evaluate teachers.
The costs are for the most part in class time that could be better spent.
