  • Did YouTube Kill Performance Art? - Room for Debate
In the Internet age, when the line between
Who said "Performance Art" was dead?
It is just a bit harder to get an audience.

Is Spanking a Black and White Issue? - Room for Debate
Traditionally, corporal punishment has been more common among black parents. Is that changing?
How in the world would I know?
Feral children are definitely a bad idea.
"Spare the rod and spoil the child." was once a rule.
Corporal punishment is cultural but I have no idea if it is a good thing.
    I didn't like it. I don't like it.

McConnell Proposal Gives Obama Power to Increase Debt Limit
      “Sen McConnell proposes something reasonable; #debtlimit #thisistheperfecttimetopanic #fb http://nyti.ms/qBU1Ni”
This plan would have had President Obama own the bad economy.
The plan would have been a political disaster for the Democrats.

    India's Selective Rage Over Corruption
The middle-class uprising against bribery, tax evasion and fraud is more complicated than it appears.
    Not so.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bribery
Our culture has criminalised all aspects of bribery.
The advocates of government as business appear to believe that bribery is and should be business as usual.

Jobs That American Workers Don't Want - Room for Debate
The reality is that our food production system depends on the exploitation of its labor force.

Ms Bedolla has the back end of the problem.
There is a large protected group who benefit from the present system.
As a result of government policy the poor simply cannot afford fair trade food. Conservative politicians have decided that support for the poor will be as minimal as possible.
If government were to simply require "Fair trade food", food produced without direct subsidy to the producers either by payment or coerced labour the game would change for the better.

The Lure of Enigmatic Gestures - Room for Debate
At a time when we're living more of our lives online, experimental forms of performance have gained new relevance.
Liz Kotz does a good job.
The internet makes the records of past events far more available.
This increases the requirement that new events be more original.
    Don't stop. Just think more.

Cutting Off Illegal Labor Would Have Upsides and Downsides - Room for Debate
Illegal immigrants don’t just fill jobs; they also buy stuff with the money they earn, spurring demand and creating jobs in other parts of the economy.

If we require that subsidised food be "Fair Trade" food a great many problems will disappear.  Among them would be most of the advantages of employing new immigrants.

A Chance to Reshape the Economy - Room for Debate
Is this dragged-out downturn an opportunity to make the U.S. economy stronger, or to rethink American work life?
These proposed actions are either economic negatives or neutrals.
There will be no action on this front while the Republicans can block it.

Fewer Youths to Be Deported in New Policy
    Better but still not good.
"The decision would, through administrative action, help many intended beneficiaries of legislation that has been stalled in Congress for a decade."

Why Aren't Germans Protesting Over European Debt? - Room for Debate
Europe binged on debt. Now Germany is stuck with the tab.
The Euro can be destroyed. The German government has a choice.
The German population does not hurt yet.
