Rapid Rise of Children With Cellphones

“Rapid Rise of Children With Cellphones - http://nyti.ms/c52wZg”

So about twenty percent of children own cell phones. boys are a bit more likely to play than girls. no surprise there. I have always considered a cell as a leash, a way for someone to find me unconditionally. one fifth of children are in need of calling or being called outside of school. schools confiscate phones on in class.

Latch key equivalent? Cells are used as anunciators, door bell equivalents. not likely. calling for pickup? maybe, at least part. single parents with unknown locations? why does the parent not have the cell? cities no longer have pay phones.

really not a very useful data set. one fifth of children need to make a call after school.

I have seen cells used as security links. Girls get on them and talk when nervous on the street. Talking in a contact is another use.

Another use is drug deals, prostitution, gang communication.

some adult wants the kid talking in one fifth of the population of kids.
