The reporter seems to have no understanding of what a distribution is.
I see how a 1/f distribution is "pink". I found no explanation in the article.
The examples did not illustrate or yet elucidate.
A pink time-series would be weighted toward longer periods. The term comes from the description of noise. A white noise has a statistical normal distribution in the Fourier transform. A blue noise has a skew toward high frequencies in the same "space". A pink noise skews toward the low frequencies in the Fourier distribution.
