They were not expelled by force.
They walked away from conflict and sought new loyalties.
Their young children are patriots.
Their older children, separated by force from a peer group, suffer divided loyalties.

The reporters seem to have difficulty remembering today's elections are internal to the parties.  The question is who has the best chance of winning in November. 
A crowded field now is not a disadvantage in November.
