Nutcracker Man’s Secret: He Didn’t Crack Nuts
Forget the strong jaws. An ancient human ancestor actually preferred something softer and chewier, the nutrient-rich tiger nut."Cyperus esculentus (or chufa sedge, nut grass, yellow nutsedge, tigernut sedge, or earth almond) is a crop of the sedge family native to warm temperate to subtropical regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It can be found wild, as a weed or as a crop. It has been cultivated since the fourth millennium BC in Egypt, and for several centuries in Southern Europe. Nowadays it is often cultivated for its edible tubers (tigernuts), mainly in Spain for the preparation of the milky beverage Horchata de chufa. But in many countries C. esculentus is considered a weed and it is underused.[1]

Besides Egypt presently, they are cultivated mainly in Spain, where it is extended for common commercial purposes in mild climate areas, tigernuts were introduced by Arabs, first in the Valencia region. They are found extensively too in California and were grown by the Paiute in Owens Valley. Tigernut is also cultivated in countries like Guatemala, Mexico, Chile, Brasil, USA, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, India, Yemen, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Sudan, South Sudan, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Ghana, Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Northern Cameroon and Mali,
where they are used primarily as animal feed or uncooked as a side
dish, but in Hispanic countries they are used mainly to make horchata, a sweet soft drink. Some African tigernuts export countries are united they forming UEMOA.

Hong Kong Firm Makes Bid for Fisker Automotive Assets
Hybrid Technology said in court papers that it was offering $30 million in cash and would cancel $25 million in debt that Fisker owed Hybrid as its senior secured lender."Assets of Fisker Automotive Inc., the bankrupt maker of hybrid cars, will be sold at auction after a judge limited the amount of debt that lender Hybrid Tech Holdings LLC can trade for the company.
Hybrid can put only $25 million of the $168.5 million it is owed by Fisker toward an acquisition bid, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Kevin Gross found today at a hearing in Wilmington, Delaware. Fisker’s assets include a closed General Motors Co. factory in Wilmington.
“I’m not denying a right to credit bid,” Gross said. “I’m simply saying it should be capped at $25 million.”
The official committee of unsecured creditors on Dec. 30 proposed a sale process naming Wanxiang America Corp. as the “stalking-horse” bidder with a lead offer of $25.8 million, plus assumed liabilities. Wanxiang, a unit of China’s Wanxiang Group Co., on Jan. 8 increased its offer by $10 million.
The Wanxiang proposal required that the bankruptcy court limit Hybrid’s credit bid, or the amount it can offer to forgive on what it is owed, to $25 million, the price Hybrid paid to buy the loan from the government.
Fisker asked Gross to allow Hybrid to buy its assets in exchange for $75 million of the acquired loan. Hybrid is controlled by Richard Li, son of Hong Kong’s richest man, Li Ka-Shing."
