      A Scientist Takes On Gravity
“Talking with @ErikVerlinde today. Will try to convince him that gravity does exist. http://nyti.ms/cc8Eu4”
I don't know what to make of this either.  I am very doubtful of string theory.  I really don't see a need for it yet.  Usually theory resolves understanding to get adopted.  Strings have not done that yet.

How Google Is Evolving Into a Media Company
David Carr is suspicious of all corporate motives.
“How Google Is Evolving Into a Media Company - http://nyti.ms/eEUyXW -
Google is growing up and has to deliver content to stay ahead.”
There is no evolution there.  The content of the Internet is changing.
The tools the Internet requires are changing.

Japan Goes From Dynamic to Disheartened
“Is history repeating itself in the US? - Japan Goes From Dynamic to Disheartened - http://nyti.ms/aWHj4g. ”
This is a picture of deflation seen from the inside.
The Japanese should have learned and taught that money does not trickle down.  There is no reason for the wealthy to do other than get the best deal they can. Money in the banks will not return to the circulating pool.  The risk premiums are prohibitive.  The pain of poverty does not drive people to discover paid work in a work desert.
What works is employing poor people at generous wages.

A Pop-Up Paris Picnic Is Coming to New York
“I would purchase white pants and travel to Paris if I get invited new year - http://nyti.ms/mR8qrx”
Let's just plan such an event for ourselves and do it. I have no desire to go public or to invite the world. Let us talk it over and settle the details.

      Ludicrous and Cruel
      “Ludicrous and Cruel - http://nyti.ms/ewtElQ”

"Specifically, the Ryan proposal trumpets the results of an economic projection from the Heritage Foundation, which claims that the plan’s tax cuts would set off a gigantic boom. Indeed, the foundation initially predicted that the G.O.P. plan would bring the unemployment rate down to 2.8 percent — a number we haven’t achieved since the Korean War. After widespread jeering, the unemployment projection vanished from the Heritage Foundation’s Web site, but voodoo still permeates the rest of the analysis.
In particular, the original voodoo proposition — the claim that lower taxes mean higher revenue — is still very much there. The Heritage Foundation projection has large tax cuts actually increasing revenue by almost $600 billion over the next 10 years."
"A more sober assessment from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office tells a different story. It finds that a large part of the supposed savings from spending cuts would go, not to reduce the deficit, but to pay for tax cuts. In fact, the budget office finds that over the next decade the plan would lead to bigger deficits and more debt than current law."

I have not attempted string theory.
The Casimir effect has been presented as evidence.

I will accept the multiverse.  The thinking around these things looks fuzzy.
