In response to questions, David Williams, Intuit’s chief tax
officer, sent a statement outlining the company’s positions on debates
over tax policy.
Tax Preparers and Preparation; Federal Taxes (US)
The management of Intuit likes their incomes.
There is a moral tangle at the root of the income tax that I did not bother to learn.
The tax has been tested in court and survives.
Personal reporting is required for that survival.
Until our congress can agree on a new tax code the kludge serves.

I would like to run my life out of my back pocket.
I find I cannot do so.
I would like to have the society I live in operate without social engineering.
It cannot do so.
I will prepare my taxes.

In a surprisingly effective conservation measure, inexpensive LEDs keep threatened fish from shrimp trawling nets in Oregon.
Shrimp; Fishing, Commercial; Endangered and Extinct Species; Light-Emitting Diodes
Regulation is viewed as the problem by the fishermen.
The large bycatch is the problem for the fishery.
The regulations should be applied.
They will make the lights and excluders mandatory.
Everyone wants the fishery to survive.

Puerto Escondido, on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, is less
commercialized and developed than better-known beach resorts like Cancun
or Puerto Vallarta, and home prices there have remained fairly
consistent.
My problem is social contact.
I do not do it automatically.
Patent law assumes individual efforts.
Copyright assumes the same.
Adding a language barrier only adds to the problem.
There is a broader conflict between society and novelty I need to consider.

For many cancers in the United States, we’ve made little headway in mortality rates, which is a different measure altogether.

"I am sure there are many people who believe that $400,000 isn’t too much
money to give a woman with breast cancer an additional year of quality
adjusted life. But this is money we can’t then spend on other treatments
or other therapies that might do more good for more people."
Aaron Carroll assumes that funds are limited.
