Socialism and the 2020 American Election
In Europe, socialism carries no red-scare potency. It's part of life, and Europe is not Venezuela."The basic requirement of any Democratic candidate is to make the forgotten, the struggling and the invisible of American society feel visible again."
The Republican party conflates socialism with Communism.
The socialism that the Republican party has fought for over a century is labor unionism. The idea that workers should bargain on an equal basis with owners is anathema to nineteenth century management. Workers are interchangable with the most desperate people available.
The populist anti immigration policy aims to limit the supply of desperate people and so raise wages. The policy of the Republican party increases the misery of the desperate and so depresses wages.
