As Deficits Mount, Amendment to Require Balanced Budgets Fails in House

The balanced-budget amendment was seen as a symbolic gesture after the Republican Congress approved tax and spending legislation that will add to deficits.

Congress must fix the taxes.  It will require an over ride of a presidential veto.
The tax cut on the rich is a Republican promise.

The Paul Ryan Story: From Flimflam to Fascism

The same forces that elevated Ryan brought us to a constitutional crisis.

"And if you ask why Ryan never took a stand against Trumpian corruption, why he never showed any concern about Trump’s authoritarian tendencies, what ever made you think he would take such a stand? Again, if you look at Ryan’s actions, not the character he played to gullible audiences, he has never shown himself willing to sacrifice anything he wants — not one dime — on behalf of his professed principles. Why on earth would you expect him to stick his neck out to defend the rule of law?
So now Ryan is leaving. Good riddance. But hold the celebrations: If he was no better than the rest of his party, he was also no worse. It’s possible that his successor as speaker will show more backbone than he has — but only if that successor is, well, a Democrat."

Boston Museum Closes Nicholas Nixon Photography Show Early

The Institute of Contemporary Art had initially decided to keep the exhibition open, despite accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior against Mr. Nixon.

Sexuality, sensuality, spirituality and art have been a heady mix for several thousand years.

One generation will not untangle the mix.

Police, at Odds with Oversight Board, Reject More of Its Penalties

The police commissioner, James P. O’Neill, last year reduced or rejected the oversight board’s disciplinary recommendations in a majority of cases.

The politics of policing are a reality.

The police will try to tighten as good Irish Catholics dealing with

Protestants of unknown morality and loyalty.
