Interest on Home Equity Loans Is Still Deductible, but With a Big Caveat

The I.R.S. says that if the loan is used for home improvements, you can still claim the deduction. But if you’re paying off credit card debt, you can’t.

"According to the advisory, the new tax law suspends the deduction for home equity interest from 2018 to 2026 — unless the loan is used to “buy, build or substantially improve” the home that secures the loan."

It assumes an income and a property that can be improved by the loan.

The estate must be split five ways.
