After testing two theories about what makes sheep’s wool kinky, researchers found flaws in existing ideas about how different types of cells contribute to curliness in hair.

Statistical differences.
The short cells, paracortical cells, average the proper length compared to the average of the length of the longer cells, orthocortical cells.

The fewer deaths seem to be a cause rather than an effect.
