Lock ’Em Up? Prosecutors Who Say ‘Not So Fast’ Face a Backlash

A battle in Florida erupted over a newly elected prosecutor’s decision not to seek the death penalty in a case involving the death of a police officer.

Right wing opposition is fully automatic.

Anti-Abortion Activists Charged in Planned Parenthood Video Case

California prosecutors say some of the videos, which were edited conversations with abortion providers that the activists secretly recorded, violated the state’s privacy law.

The act is slander.
"California prosecutors filed felony charges on Tuesday against two anti-abortion activists who secretly recorded videos in an attempt to discredit abortion providers, saying that some of the recordings violated the state’s privacy law."
Good.

Do DHA Supplements Make Babies Smarter?

5 Prosecutors With a Fresh Approach

These newly elected leaders are trying to reshape the justice system.

Let the experiment be attempted.
The results should become obvious.

That does not mean the results will be seen.

The Empty Supreme Court Confirmation Hearing

Judge Neil Gorsuch was the least forthcoming court nominee ever.

I do not expect the filibuster to survive.
It must be attempted.

President Trump Risks the Planet

Reversing President Obama’s climate policies will raise emissions and undercut America’s claim to leadership on the issue of global warming.

I can hope the Trump administration will not be allowed to succeed.  I will aid the effort as I can.

Justices Dig Through 1984 Murder, Weighing Withheld Evidence

The legal question was about prosecutors withholding evidence about another suspect, but the argument was dominated by an effort to reconstruct what happened decades ago.

This is just a bad case.

There should probably be a new trial.

Fact Check: Trump’s Misleading Words on Energy and Jobs

President Trump claimed undue credit for job gains and miscast the effect of his executive orders on energy.

Donald Trump will lie.

3 Men on Death Row in Louisiana Sue Over Solitary Confinement

State law requires that inmates sentenced to die be kept in cells by themselves, which means 23 hours a day of isolation, which the plaintiffs call “cruel and unusual.”

The prison policy is cruel.
It appears to be unusual.

The policy should be ended.

‘Richard Nixon,’ Portrait of a Thin-Skinned, Media-Hating President

This elegant and sympathetic biography by John A. Farrell arrives as a current president makes comparisons unavoidable.

I am not tempted to forgive Richard Nixon for any of his acts.
