Does IMF Stand for Impressive Macroeconomic Flexibility?
So the IMF is holding a meeting on rethinking macroeconomic policy (I was invited but couldn’t make the timing work.) And the Fund’s chief economist has already made it clear that he’s open to some serious revision of the prevailing paradigm.
This is not a trustorthy report:

      http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2012/02/greece-key-meeting-on-sunday.html
From the Athens News: Crucial meeting of coalition partners
The crucial negotiation of the coalition political party leaders over the EC-ECB-IMF troika's ultimatums and shock measures has been set for 13:00 on Sunday.

In this new meeting of the leaders of three parties backing the interim government led by Lucas Papademos which will take place on Sunday, the prime minister is expected to present them with a document detailing the rigid positions of the troika. ... [reports are] the prime minister is thinking of resigning if the three do not manage to come to an agreement.
From Reuters: Euro zone loses patience with Greece
Euro zone finance ministers told Greece on Saturday it could not go ahead with an agreed deal to restructure privately-held debt until it guaranteed it would implement reforms needed to secure a second financing package from the euro zone and the IMF.
From the NY Times: Greek Talks at a Delicate Point, Official Says

Greek Official Says Barriers Remain in Rescue Deal

ATHENS — The Greek finance minister said that talks with foreign creditors were “on a razor’s edge,” with major issues unresolved ahead of a crucial deadline.
      No progress.

      The Happiest People
“The Happiest People (there's more than one way to slice happiness) http://nyti.ms/7KY8Wn #fb”

Traditionally dependent on coffee, banana and beef exports, Costa Rica has diversified its economy. The opening of a large computer chip plant in the late 1990s was a fillip to the economy, but its fortunes have been subject to the fluctuating world demand for microchips.

A local Costa Rican unloads bananas
Politics: Costa Rica's first female president, Laura Chinchilla, succeeded elder statesman and nobel laureate Oscar Arias on 8 May 2010
Economy: One of Central America's most affluent countries; Costa Ricans voters narrowly approved a free trade deal with the US in 2007

Tourism is Costa Rica's main source of foreign exchange. Its tropical forests are home to a profusion of flora and fauna, including 1,000 species of orchid and 850 species of birds, such as macaws and toucans.
The Caribbean coast with its swamps and sandy beaches is also a big draw. But Costa Rica is trying to shake off its reputation as a destination for sex tourists.
Costa Rica has been used as a transit point for South American cocaine and there have been allegations that drug-tainted money has found its way into the coffers of the two main political parties.
Once dubbed the "Switzerland of Central America", the country's self-image was badly shaken in 2004 when allegations of high-level corruption led to two former presidents being imprisoned on graft charges.

The government has rolled over once again for Big Meat and we may be in more danger from antibiotic-resistant superbugs.
So far, 2012 is bringing bad news for people who don't want "free antibiotics" in their food.
Antibiotics are routinely given to livestock on factory farms to make them gain weight with less feed and keep them from getting sick in confinement conditions. But the daily dosing, at the same time it lowers feed needs, lowers drug effectiveness and produces antibiotic resistant bacteria or super bugs that can be deadly to people." . . .

Square Tries to Make Wallets Obsolete
“Interesting new twist on paying for a cup of coffee.”

A few cents off the top.   Debt. Not a good idea.
"Using cellphones to ease offline purchases is a crowded corner of tech investment. Most companies are tackling one aspect of purchasing, like mobile payments or coupons. But Mr. Dorsey is thinking big. He wants Square to be involved in every step of the transaction process by replacing cash registers, loyalty cards and paper receipts. “We think it should be one system,” he said." "
      Data sales pay the bill.

Views Show How a North Korean Policy Spread Misery
“How a North Korean Policy Spread Misery - http://nyti.ms/bhx9og ”

This is an example of Gresham's law, often stated as bad money displaces good.
North Korea has practiced austerity and deflation to the hard limit of general starvation.  The inevitable default and inflation has wiped out the monetary value of their currency.  Marxism has the gold standard built in.
      Keynesians cannot be Marxists.

Iranian Grandmaster Says He Set New Record
“Iranian Grandmaster Says He Set New Record http://nyti.ms/e58XpD”

He had a 3.9% failure rate.  That was better than the Israeli.
The statistics could also show that the Israelis are better at chess
And have a smaller pool of players.  It is not a usefull statistic.
What we learn is that Grandmasters walk a great deal.
