Priests Defy Vatican on Women’s Ordination
Incidents on three continents raise anew the issue of the ordination of women and married men.
Roman Catholic priests of the eastern (Russian) rite may be married. The record is rife with female martyrs. Mary Magdalen is or should be ranked among the apostles.
The prejudice against half of humanity is irrational.

Elliot Handler, Co-Founder Of Mattel Toys, Dies at 95
Mr. Handler helped introduce Barbie, helped design the talking doll Chatty Cathy and popularized Hot Wheels toy cars.
I will not miss him.  I will have to build an operation if I want to be in the toy business.  I have not been paying attention to that market.  I would have a hard time finding a socially acceptable entry.  Ball clay needs its own walls.  That level of mess must not come into living spaces.

Please Don’t Swat the Bug Tattoo, and Other Ink Codes
Naked-flesh season is in full swing in New York, and lots of tattoos are exposed. City Critic gets help hammering out a code of ethics for an increasingly tattooed world.
I have more than my skin and the surfaces I decorate really should not last a lifetime.  All of my taste is subject to change My skin I must wear.  As long as I do not modify it I am not totally responsible for it.  It is a record of accident and incident.  That is enough.

Test Driving a Suzuki Kei Microcar
RUTHERFORD, N.J. — I don’t know if it’s possible for a Honda Element to mate with a toaster, but for the sake of argument, let’s just say that it can. The resulting offspring may have been on display at the Meadowlands here over the weekend.
      I like the idea.
I need to know more before I invest.
One of these and an all electric may be as good as cars get for a generation.  Getting fuel costs below ten cents a mile is worth doing.

The Sun Is the Best Optometrist
“The Sun Is the Best Optometrist - http://nyti.ms/lVB5fz”
I found that I was among the twenty five percent.  I spent lots of time outdoors and needed glasses.
The word is ophthalmologist.  Optometrists measure the deficit.

Explaining Sunscreen and the New F.D.A. Rules
New federal regulations on sunscreen labeling are set to take effect next year, but you shouldn’t wait to do all you can to protect your skin.
I dislike sunscreen.  I prefer a hat and shirt.
      Socks are a new addition.
I have suffered with sunburned ankles enough.

Deep Below Park Avenue, a 200-Ton Drill at Rest
A gargantuan cutter head that has been hollowing out tunnels for a train station under Grand Central Terminal will be buried, dormant and decayed, in Midtown Manhattan.
Abandoning the project now is foolish.
We will need that tunnel before flooding makes the whole project moot.

      Spielberg’s Stop at Comic-Con
Steven Spielberg makes his first appearance at Comic-Con International in San Diego to promote “The Adventures of Tintin” and show off his inner child.
"Consumers, said Mr. Jackson, are justifiably peeved when they pay an extra $5 to see a movie in 3-D, only to find out “it’s as bad as the one you saw in 2-D.”"

Cold-Brewing Coffee and Tea - The Curious Cook
Cold-brewed teas and coffees tend to contain less caffeine and less acid than their hot counterparts. And, of course, they taste different.
I may get there.  I have not needed to as yet.

Let his fans have their memories.
I am ready to bounce clods on the coffin.
I was not fond of Michael Jackson.  The burst of attention has not changed that.

H & H Bagels to Close Upper West Side Store
H & H Bagels, the Upper West Side’s most celebrated destination for what is quite possibly the Upper West Side’s most iconic food, is closing its Upper West Side store, employees said Tuesday.
A bakery is indispensable.  If the town does not have one it needs one.
The chains can't compete.  Home delivery is a feature.
