Bipartisan Report Says Trump’s Abuse Has Pushed Federal Science to a ‘Crisis’

Lisa Friedman at NYT > U.S. > Politics - 1 hour ago
All presidents over the past two decades have nudged science to support their policies, but a report out of N.Y.U. said the Trump administration has driven federal science to a “crisis point.”

The assumptions are wrong.
Science is a self organizing model of reality.
There is no government science of any stripe.
Scientists employed by governments have been strongly encouraged to support political presumptions.
Properly, policy follows the science.
The Trump administration and some others have tried to have scientists support their politics.
This destroys the repute of those individuals.

There is a crisis in politics.
There is no crisis in science.

More Drama.
Brexit will do political damsge.
Ending fossil fuels in Britain will also do political damage.
There is no causal connection between the two.

How the Law Protects Intelligence Whistle-Blowers, and Leaves Them at Risk

Charlie Savage at NYT > U.S. > Politics - 1 hour ago
President Trump compared the whistle-blower to a spy. The complainant has some legal protections, but there are gaps in the law, too.

Stay-at-Home Parents Work Hard. Should They Be Paid?

Claire Cain Miller at NYT > U.S. > Politics - 1 hour ago
The idea, a favorite of social conservatives, is now supported by several Democratic presidential candidates.

Eliminating the household economy would extend the reach of the deep state.
I could argue that stay at home parents are paid.
A paid domestic staff is costly.

Lisa Lerer at NYT > U.S. > Politics - 10 hours ago
The top three Democratic candidates are 78, 76 and 70 years old and one of them, Bernie Sanders, went to the hospital with chest pain. Voters want experienced leaders, but exactly how much life experience do they want?

Age always carries information.

It must be decripted.

Trump Denies Considering a Border Moat

Michael Crowley at NYT > U.S. > Politics - 10 hours ago
The Times reported that the president considered the moat, to be infested with alligators and snakes, but Mr. Trump attributed the story to The Washington Post.

"The article, which appeared in Wednesday’s newspaper, was written by the Times reporters Michael D. Shear and Julie Hirschfeld Davis, and excerpted from their forthcoming book, “Border Wars: Inside Trump’s Assault on Immigration,” to be published on Tuesday by Simon & Schuster. The Washington Post had no role in either the article or the book."

Simple Humanity

Ian Welsh at Ian Welsh - 12 hours ago
Was reminded today of a barista at a Starbucks I used to frequent, who at the end of the night would give out sandwiches which would otherwise be put in the garbabe, and fill up cups with drinks which would otherwise be poured down the sink. A very simple kindness, and one which was against […]
