Judge Orders Reinstatement of Ousted Philadelphia Inquirer Editor

The newspaper’s majority owners overstepped their authority when they fired William K. Marimow, its top editor, the judge ruled.
Decisions and Verdicts; Newspapers

"Dan Fee, a spokesman representing the majority owners said that his clients would appeal the decision to reinstate Mr. Marimow.
“The decision to return Marimow to the Inquirer as a lame duck editor — his contract ends April 30th — will have the effect of risking chaos in the company, restoring an editor who consistently resisted needed changes to the paper and who is in open conflict with the publisher,” said Mr. Fee. “We believe today’s decision is wrong and will harm the journalistic independence and operations of the newsroom.”
Mr. Marimow said he appreciated how Mr. Lenfest and Mr. Katz had fought for his reinstatement and stressed how pleased he felt to be back at work. “I am reporter and editor at heart,” he said. “It feels great to be in the newsroom, rather than a courtroom.”"

This fight is not over.
